A story needs a cause-effect relationship occurring in time and space, both that are explicitly presented and those the viewer infers, constitutes the story.

Plot is the explanation of the story that takes place and explains to the audience.

The relationship of a story and the plot is;

Story is like “what happened?”
Plot is like “why it happened? And how?

Figure xx: 3 - Act Structure (12.09.22)

Act 1

The beginning is to start introducing the environment and the world that the subject lives in, then the main characters, and the establishment of the dramatic situation which leads to an incident that complicated the story (Plot point 1).

Act 2

The middle is known as ‘Rising action’. It is where the development of obstacles comes in to the plot. Then it leads to the climax of the story (plot point 2).

Act 3

The end is where the climax starts to come to an end. The main subject has found a solution to the obstacles and the problems that they have encountered.

Tasks

Exercise 1 : Mint Commercial

For this exercise, we were practicing our premiere pro editing skills and Mr Martin gave us a drive folder containing different clips and we were meant to put them all together accordingly. The files were named in a sequential manner so it was pretty easy to identify which was going next.

Exercise 2 : Doritos Commercial

Just like the previous exercise, we were told to identify the clips that we were given and arrange them accordingly. But this one weren't named so we had figure the sequence ourselves.

Exercise 3 : Storyboard Exercise

For the third exercise, we needed to watch a funny video of a person in a hospital and we needed to sequence the video in a storyboard. This exercise was more of a practice to understand the principles of a storyboard. This was going to be beneficial for the shooting practice.

Exercise 4: Color Correction Exercise

For the color correction exercise, the cclass weas given a drive folder with a picture and 3 different sequential videos. Mr Martin has shown in class how to do this in premiere pro.

Exercise 5: Stop-Motion Exercise

For the final task, we went to the shooting class in campus. The class was divided among the people who wanted to do the visual effects and the people who wanted to do stop-motion for their final project.

We made our characters with clay, then with the background already set up by Mr Martin, we started to shoot the photos. We didn't quite know what the storyline was going to be so we just made some random movements and with the help of a stick, we could make the characters float.

After shooting, Mr Martin helped us to import the photos onto Adobe After Effects and showed us how to remove the stick as it made the sequence of photos very inconsistent and the character is supposed to be "floating" not hooked onto a stick.

Reflections

Experience

I think throughout the whole semester of exercises, it has really given me more confidence in video editing and filming. This really helped a lot when it came down to actually doing the assignments and projects and I think this was an amazing experience to level up my knowledge.

Observations

If I were to be honest, I was not keeping up with the blogs and I think that, that was a real big problem for me here since I did not manage to be as efficient as I could've been and trying to put everything in one go could really mess up the sequences of images and such.

Findings

I think that I found more and more useful things to use in premiere pro and after effects here throughout the whole semester. I did not realize that there were more things to learn and the baility to hone my experience and this was a really useful lesson.
