Project 4 - Abstract Motion
In our last project, the goal was to make a 30-45 second composition, and we had the freedom to choose whatever we wanted to create. No specific rules or themes – just a chance to let our creativity loose and come up with something unique. It was a cool opportunity to explore and showcase our individual styles.
I looked around in pinterest and behance for some reference on what I could do, and a lot of the things that showed me were very colorful and 3d like elements that were minimalistic flying across everywhere that made it look surreal. Here were some of the things that seemed very interesting to make.
Progress
I started out by making the moodboard;
Theme: Universe
Color: Gradients of different colors but mostly purple and blue and black
Style: Minimalistic & simple
I wanted to make something that is dark that represents space, then it transitions into something very colorful which represents creativity in a way.
So then with the moodboard, I drew out the storyboard that sort of represents what I was trying to go with. I wanted very rounded feeling for the elements that I was going to use since it sort of represents planets in the universe.

With that done, I started to compose in after effects. I first used the shapes tool in after effects, making circles and more circles to make the first scene. I only used eclipse tool to make the composition.

Then, I used an effect called cc star burst to make the stars background appear and its preset timekeys to make it look like it is travelling forwards.

Everything was going pretty fine but I wanted to make some characters and objects that are able to be shown in the composition to when the star goes through this colorful gradient. So I altered from the storyboard a little bit by making a ghost. I made the ghost in illustrator and then imported it into after effects after separating the layers. I then animated the eyes of the ghost to sort of follow the star.

The next scene really resembled the post in pinterest and I thought that it would be very cool for me to try and make the composition be very colorful after the star gets inside the huge ball.

For the colorful gradient that I wanted for the balls, I made different shapes of colors and make it a 3d layer. Then, I individually make it look random when rotated, and then parented it all to a null layer which was keyframed to rotate. After, I added in an adjustment layer to make it blurry and boom that was it.

This was pretty much finished so I exported it and then searched for some of the sound effects on google and youtube and edited the video on premiere pro.

Then the whole project was pretty much done.
