Project 2 - Channel Bumper
The second project is needed to make a channel bumper for a brand or anything
honestly. We are required to look into previous advertisements and different
projects that they have already released and done and make that the reference
for the project. There should be enough research and sketches to find out what
kind of visual that we should go for.
For the ideas of different logos and brands, I compiled a list of things that
I would want to try to do for the project.

So I started to think about the different types of compositions that I could
use in the channel bumper for LG.
I thought about making different things that LG produces as products like TVs,
Home Appliances and etc and making all those things in illustrator and making
it so that the composition shows that LG makes lots of different variety of
products.
HOWEVER, I thought about it again and I just thought that would be too
complicated and overdone for a channel bumper. So I decided to go with a
familiar company's app, Steam.
Progress
Steam has a pretty simple logo design that represents gears that runs engines
pretty much. I found that pretty creative in its own way so I started with the
storyboard.
I first came up with making the logo/the last scene where it shows the steam
logo at the end. The logo was a gear so I wanted to make the hand come down
from above and following that hand, the there hand would come down into place
and the lock of that hand would change the colour of the composition.
I then made the scenes, making it focus the benefits of using steam, like playing with friends, gifting, downloading and buying games, etc.

However, because I realized that it was going to take more than 15 seconds to finish off the whole thing that is drawn in the storyboard, I drew a new storyboard than would be more fitting to the timeline.
| Figure 2.4: Storyboard redone |
It was a lot simpler but it was fitting in the timeline.
I started out by making a steam logo, by following a youtube tutorial to make a typeface animation.

After the steam wording was done it was time to make the steam logo itself. And I wanted to make the gear come down and fix into place.
If I wanted to do this, I needed to make the logo in illustrator and import them into after effects.
So after making the logo and importing it, I started the animation by making it drop down, but because they were all independent layers, I individually positioned them to follow the gears. However, Later on I found out that I could just parent it and just make everything move a lot easier.

I also wanted to change the color of the logo after it gets fixed into place so I just took the easy way and I downloaded a wallpaper from google of steam logo and I placed it in to the composition at the end.
After, it was all pretty easy. I just made the typography have different effects and beat dependent when it came to transitions. For the controller, I just trace pathed on it to give it some effects.
