Week 6
Composition Theory 2 // Perspective
The art of representing 3D objects on a 2D surface so that it gives a right
impression of their relative scale.
Linear perspective organizes subjects on a realistic
perspective.
there are 4 types of constructive perspectives;
One-point perspective
Two-point perspective
Composition 2 // One-Point Perspective
The most simple method of producing 3D images, where drawings comes
from a single point of the horizon in the middle. The further the
images is to the vanishing point, it gets bigger in perspective and it
goes the opposite way for when the image is closer to the vanishing
point.
Another usage of one point perspective is when to show speed and
excitement on canvas by showing lines.
Horizon is usually the ground level.
Composition 2 // Two-Point Perspective
The are vanishing points on either side of the horizon and the objects
and buildings within the scene are drawn to both of these
points.
IT contains of 2 sets of overlapping perspective lines
Composition 2 // Three-Point Perspective
Usually consists of 2 vanishing points on opposite sides of a horizon, but
with an additional vanishing point above or below the
horizon.
Can be seen in a worm's eye view. If the 3rd vanishing point is
further front the horizon, the greater and extreme the perspective
is.
Composition 2 // Isometric View
For creating detailed concepts of individual buildings, It's more
beneficial to use a simple isometric view, since it allows you to clearly
present three sides of your design without distorting perspective of
obscuring details. games usually uses this since it doesn't distort the
perspective when moving around.

3 acts structure
Story telling basics
Central theme
the theme is what the story is really about. Its the main idea or
underlying meaning. often, its the storyteller's personal opinion on the
subject matter.
Major theme: Idea that is intertwined and repeated throughout the
narrative.
Minor Theme: Idea that appears more subtly, and that doesn't repeat.
Conflict
The conflict is what drives the story. Its what creates the tension and
builds suspense which are the elements that make a story interesting.
characters
A story usually includes a number of characters each with a different role
or purpose. Regadless of how many characters a story has, however, there
is almost alwaus a protagonist and an antagonist.
Central Characters: These characters are vital to the development of the
story. The plot revolves around them.
Protagonist: main characters of story, has a clear goal to accomplish,
must command emotional involvement from the audience.
Antagonist: opposes protagonist, standing between them and their goal.
Antagonist can be presented in any way in which it represents a tremendous
obstacle to the protagonist.
Three-Acts Structure
Setup
World where protagonist exists prior to journey. The setup usually ends
with the conflict being revealed.

Task 2: Exercise 1 (Poster)
Research & Sketch
Starting with the research, I looked through many references online trying
to find a nice visual of what I could make a poster out of. I asked my
friends as well, and since we are interested in going to the gym a lot, he
said to try out a poster for 'CBUM' (Chris Bumstead). I thought it was going
to be a good idea to try it out.
With the reference picture of Chris Bumstead, I outlined him out
distinctively to his muscles so that I can sketch it out in photoshop then
move it to illustrator.

I made more progression on the background as it was too 'blank'. I added 2 more pictures of CBUM and traced him out and gave them a black silhouette but keeping that iconic mustache.
I asked Ms Noranis if this was appropriate for the work but she told me to
try to have a moment in a story as this isn't one and it just looks like a
general poster. So with having to scrap this Idea, I went on with the theme
of 'Star Wars'.

First off, I started with a landscape artboard and traced out the scene in
one of the figures above.

| Figure 4.1: Star Wars Sketch (18.05.2022) |
I decided to go with a simplistic design like the first one, since I feel like it does bring out the interesting effect of modern poster designs. I made the silhouette of them black, since most of the colors they are wearing is black, and made the obvious proportions of anatomy that intersects with the body have the outline of white.

| Figure 4.2: Problems and Issues #1 (20.05.2022) |
There were definitely some confusions here and there, and the corrections and refining were needed as well to get this poster done.

There were other complications on the results of this work shown in the figures, as the first figure was that the lightsabers did not have inner glow to them when I added the effects to them in the 'Fx' menu. I tried to get it work but in the end I couldn't get my head around it so I left it as white and have outer glow instead.
However, even in the outer glow, the lightsaber that Luke is holding (the
green one), was turning white instead of green and this was really
frustrating to get it right. The landscape was eventually turned into a
portrait format to give that poster look.
I tried to get the Star Wars font as close as possible to the original
font, and this was the result of that. The title seemed a bit off though,
with all that background, so I decided to add the title of the movie 'The
Empire Strikles Back', to the right side of the title.

Task 2: Exercise 2 (Animation)
Progress
The making of the animation was went through a sequence of making multiple
artboards, as a frame of the animation, and when exported, it got imported
again into photoshop for the last timeframe animation motion.
I thought of different ways to animate the poster, but without any motion
of the lightsaber, it wouldn't be star wars so I decided to make the
lightsaber turn on and the blade comes out of the handle.
|
| Figure 5.1: Illustrator Artboard (23.05.2022) |
There were lots of small edits and it really took a lot of the artboards but I wanted to make the animation as smooth as possible so that is why there are so many frames.
The first frame is shown to be full because I wanted the initial reference
to start from and how the animation should look like when it is
finished.
|
| Figure 5.2: Start and End of animation timeline (23.05.2022) |
The animation was niche with only just the lightsabers turning on, so I added in the effects of the name of the movie popping out of the line that separates the Main Title to the name of the film.

| Figure 5.3: Photoshop Timeline (23.05.2022) |
The figure above is the photoshop timeline for the animation.
After the process of trying to save it into a gif, there were different
outcomes of what came out.
As shown the second figure had a more clear ray of light than the first and
I didn't like that about it. It didn't have that luminous feeling to the
sabers and it just made it seem more digital than it already is.
So I went with the first version as it is seems more natural to look at to
the eye.

FEEDBACK
Miss Noranis as seen my work (Mr. Olympia one) and didn't really quite understand what I was doing for the task. It didn't really measure up to what the assignment was asking for and she told me to try and get a scene in a movie that has a story.
So I tried to get a scene from a movie and when I told her that I was up for Star Wars, she approved of it as it correlated more towards the task.
Then when I finished my work for the poster (Exercise 1), I showed Miss Noranis my work, and she approved of it.
REFLECTIONS
This task really made my understanding of illustrator a lot more clearer. I practiced through Mr. Hafiz's tutorial classes and it really helped out a bunch for the projects.
There were still some sides to where I need improvements but I think I have learnt a lot of the basics fundamentals of Illustrator. My lecturer from Typography class also helped out on creating the animation as we have used it for one of his exercises and I think it made us get used to it at least a little bit.
