Sketches

Figure 2.1: Sketches #1 (12.06.2022)

Figure 2.2: Sketches #1 (12.06.2022)

After drawing out 2 sketches, I felt more comfortable going with the first since it had more variables and components that I could add onto the canvas.

I planned to use images that I took pictures of, but in the end it was too hard not for me to use images online. So I decided to just add in all the images I could take and from online to create the poster.

Progress (Poster)

Figure 3.1: Pictures taken online (15.06.2022)

Figure 3.2: Pictures that are taken myself (15.06.2022)

The figures above are all the components that were taken either myself or taken from the internet following the sketches for the composition.

I first started by placing the image with the airplane in the clouds and cropping it off so the wing wouldn't be visible. This was going to be my background.

I then opened a new file with my head, and I mask the parts off carefully using the select and mask option to cut out my hair and sensitive bits since I was going to need my head in the skies in the background picture.

With that 2 combination, I cropped my head a little bit more, so that I would have space to put things that fly out of my head and be visible as well when its rendered.

Figure 3.3: Photoshop edit #1 (20.06.2022)

I was ready to place things in, so I did just that and placed them in where it looked alright in the composition.

Figure 3.4: Photoshop edit #2 (20.06.2022)

The pink clouds on the bottom left and the bottom right was acting sort of like a foreground, and well, the color scheme and the theme was going to be very surreal so I decided to go with pink/purple. The foreground clouds were going to be perfect to edit in after effects as I can move it to make it look like the composition is actually moving naturally.

After, I started editing with the hues and saturation, even the brightness, to finalize the poster.

Figure 3.5: Final Poster (without texture) (22.06.2022)

Figure 3.6: Final Poster (with texture) (22.06.2022)

I changed the hue of my face to a little bit or purple to give it that realistic feel to it (although none of this looks real). I wanted the surrounding lights to reflect my skin so I changed it to the color it is in the final poster.

Progress (Animation)

After the creation of the poster, I went on to create the animation for it. I imported the file from photoshop to after effects, and changed the duration of the video to 15 seconds.

With all of the layers and the components in the right order, I began editing the background first.

Figure 4.1: After Effects edit (25.06.2022)

While editing the sizes and the positions of the layers, I messed around with the puppet tool and warped the objects around to give it that slow, surreal moment within the animation. I really liked this tool and I used it quite often in the animation.

Figure 4.2: Puppet tool usage #1 (25.06.2022)

This tool was specifically really good for animating with the clouds and the 2 pink clouds that are visualized as the foreground.

Figure 4.3: Puppet tool before (25.06.2022)

Figure 4.4: Puppet tool after (25.06.2022)

The two figures shows the beginning and the last of the clip where it is in its origin points and the progress of where it gets warped to have that moving effect.

With this effect, I added it to the waterfall, the musical notes and the Saturn ring around my head because I thought it would look pretty good moving than just a simple jpeg image just sitting there.

I then downloaded a music that would fit to the atmosphere of the composition and with the help of video editing, I added video transitions and the music to it as well.

I exported the video, but in fact, it was bigger than the required amount of 20mb or less. So I used a 3rd party website to compress the file.

FEEDBACK

- (I have not joined the review session as I was sick..)

REFLECTION

Experience

It was actually my first time using the software adobe after effects, but it had similarities from photoshop and premiere pro so that gave me a little bit of an advantage. Although I wasn't quite familiar with everything, I still got some help from google to help me guide through some stuff.

I tried getting as many pictures as I can for this, but in the end I still ended up using quite more than I expected from online. I wish to improve in the next semester and increase my productivity.

Observation

I have seen myself quite tired these past few weeks as I have gotten my third dose of the vaccine, and due to many assignments that are handed out and is needed to be complete by the deadline. But this task was definitely something that I could get by fairly quick so I managed to complete this in time within my schedule.

Findings

During the time of completing this assignment, I thought that I would be really stuck on the software after effects as I have never used it before but in the end it all worked out pretty fine. I also thought that this would be the hardest and the most gruesome task, but it was just like the other previous assignments that we had in the past.

Doing this final project was a lot of fun, and this was probably by far the most enjoyable subject that I have taken.
