Project 1 - Hard Surface Modelling
For the first project, we were required to utilize all the fundamentals we learnt from the exercises and make a hard surface model of anything.
I thought about it, and I made a room following a tutorial, but Mr Kamal said that was was project 2 so I needed to think of something else...
I first thought of a weapon from League of Legends, an axe held by a character called "Sion", and I tried to find images or reference for that weapon. However, there were a lot of variants for the weapon and I just scrapped the idea in the middle of making that weapon.

Then, I just decided to work on a sword that I thought was pretty cool, and that was the buster sword from the game Final Fantasy.
I looked up some references online, and unluckily, I couldn't really find a proper HD image of the sword... But I just used a blurry picture that I could reference for the structure of the sword and I just looked at other picture for the details.

I had quite a hard time adding in the details, but the structure of the sword was done quite easily.. The framework of when I needed to make a hole through the sword made ALOT of lines for some reason and it kind of messed up the whole segment of the sword.

The details were not perfect, like the handle and the indented segments of the sword but I think it came out looking OKAY..

Then after adding in the final colors and the material optimizing, I finalized the work and added in the lights to make the sword pop a little.

This was the first final outcome, but I noticed that there was a little problem with the edge of the sword, which looked like it had a ridge and that made it look weird so I tried to lengthen that part of the blade and Mr Kamal wanted me to make the lights brighter as it is quite difficult to see the sword. So I made some adjustments.

I looked at it and although it looked a lot better, I wanted to keep the originality of the blade so I just reverted it back to when it was short on the edge. I also made some lighting changes and the render from eevee to cycles to make the sword pop more.

Feedback
Mr Kamal wanted me to change the lighting of the sword since it looked very dark and it blended in with the background a lot so it was hard to see the details of the sword.
Reflections
Experience
I definitely got stuck here and there for this task since there were very limited amount of reference I could find.. there were very non-HD images and I really had to look through other 3D works of other people making that weapon and there were lots of variations of the models so it was quite hard to make. But I think this was a very fun project to work on and improve the skills.
Observations
I found myself quite stuck and in a deep hole after I wanted to redo the project, but after seeing other classmates' work I' glad I could rethink on what I could do for the project.
Findings
I learnt a lot about the intricate details that you have to consider when messing around with the Boolean modifier.. It was a real hassle to make thing right after making a lot of weird lines on the plane. I also found it quite difficult to use the knife tool on a plane with bumps as it will create separate lines to connect the surface together..
