Tasks

Exercise 1 -
Bouncing Ball

For this exercise, We had to make a ball bounce using adobe animate. We learned the fundamentals and the basics of the usage of adobe animate.

We were taught animating by 1s and 2s and we have decided that the format of the animation will be animating by 2s and 24 frames per second.

When animating the ball, I wanted to try out some things and wanted to try making it as smooth as possible. With that in mind, I tried to add some frames in between to make it a bit more smoother.

The outcome was really good and I wanted it to have a bit of an oomph. So I added in a bit more details like squash when the ball touched the ground and I added more frames at the end to make the ball roll.

Exercise 2 - Bouncing ball with Tail Animation

For squash and stretch, we were required to do the same thing, but with a feeling of an actual bounce on the ball. after the squash of the ball, there needed to be a stretch as well, to compensate for the fall and the ball needed to maintain the volume.

All I really had to do for this task was to just take the things we learnt from the first exercise and make adjustments to make the ball look more lively and such.

I then went on and added a tail, making it move as it went along the path, making sure to make it natural and alive. It was quite a thinking process cause it needed to follow physics and the tail itself had momentum from the attached ball, so I made sure to make the tail follow along after the ball landed and was ready to bounce up again.

Figure 2.2: Follow through on tail

After, I wanted to add more details, so I distorted the ball to make it detain the momentum it has and stick to the ground, which makes the ball lose its shape for a bit.

Feedback

Motion

I am in need to plan out the animation first then put the animation in-between so that it looks more consistent with the frames. AND ALSO, need to stop doing animating on 1s as it is tedious work.

Then there is a need to make a tail for the ball, and follow through with the motion of the ball. This needed to have its own physical motion and drag as it bounces.

Squash and Stretch

AGAIN animated on 1s, need to change that up. The final frames where the ball bounces and the tail follows up, the tail can go down a bit more. Also, the ball needs to maintain its shape so I made adjustments to when it goes down and becomes thinner.

Reflections

Experience

The exercises helped me understand
a lot about the software, 'adobe animate' and the simple fundamentals and the basics that are needed to when it is used to animate things. But I really liked the practical exercise where I could make simple altercations to make things a bit more visually appealing.

Observations

I found that I was making more animation on ones and not on twos and that really made more progress to be completed  and I was not really doing in between and I was just drawing as how I felt fit. That was probably not a great idea and needed to fix that.

Findings

I learnt a lot about the principles of animation while making these squishy balls. That really made me think that even a small object follows the principles to make it an actual animation.
