Project 1 (Environment Sound Edit)
For the first project, we had to make an environmental sound where there is a
story behind it. The choices were;
1. Wildlife + Background
2. Everyday Home Life + Background
3. Cities + Transport + Exterior Atmosphere
4. Industry and Electronic sounds + Background
5. Weather + Background
6. Market + Rural atmosphere + Background
I decided to go with Wildlife and background noise. I thought that it would
be quite interesting to go with wildlife in winter and a person going up a
snowy mountain.
Storyline
I first made the storyline for the project and began to download and import
audios from freesound.org and on youtube.
Progress
I first downloaded the car sounds and stepping on snow sound I found for free
on Youtube. Then, I began downloading the bird sounds, then the other
necessary sounds I needed.
I compiled them all together in the order where it follows the
storyline.
|
The results came about to looking something like this. Some of the sounds were
not really accurate to how they would sound in real life, so I started with
the editing.
I first started by lowering the volumes of sounds like birds, engine, radio
sound, etc. Just because they were really loud and they were going into the
red zone in the meter. I then made some volumes increase in volume and
decrease in volume over the period as the sudden cut off was not a really good
way to end a sound.
|
For sounds like the car engine, I split up the sound in a few sections and
made the the end decrease in volume as I was trying to replicate the car
slowing down. Then I did the opposite for when the car is starting to move
forward.
I finished setting up different EQs for different sounds that needed it. And
made the sounds go left or right depending on how he character moved across
the mountain.
Mr Razif told me that I should try to make the sounds like the birds go by the
character as it sounds too static and birds are following the guy everywhere
he goes. So I with the different bird sounds I had, I made some be on the
right and some on the left.
I finished up on the first attempt, BUT Mr Razif didn't like the snow walking
sound as it sounded muffled. So I tried to find a cleaner version of snow
walking to make things be more accurate to what the audience is hearing.
Final Submissions
Feedback
Mr Razif told me that this storyline sounded like he was in a zoo and that I needed to make it a bit more interesting.
After creating the first attempt, Mr Razif told me that the birds sounded very static and not realistic. Also the snow crunching sound was really bad as it was very muffled and just bad in general.
