REFLECTION

I didn’t know what to expect when I chose this module, whether that be disappointment or happiness or even gratefulness, but now that I have taken Design and Creative Media for 1 semester, I really feel like my mind has been opened up and shown the number of possibilities there are for perspective. As well as perspective, I also learned that design does not have a definite meaning and that it is susceptible to different people’s style.

The way this module gave me a new frame of mind is beyond belief, the way I think now is so much freer and I don’t feel like my mind is trapped in a cage anymore and I’m set free from thinking like the average person. Not to mention, Dr Charles’ positive mindset, I don’t know how he does it. The atmosphere of his classes is amazing, even if he seems to think that your artwork isn’t to your full potential, he still gives positive feedback, it’s honest too and that’s why I think that he’s a great lecturer; fair but honest. Overall, this module has taught me way more than what I had anticipated.

This really gave me a vision to start looking at more design in my free time and visualize the elements used in that specific artwork. Although it might not sound promising, the principles that were taught really intrigued me to remember how I should see a design.

From this class, in all honesty, I did not really like how we were given a self scoring sheet and we had to create the blogs. I never really like to self score my own work because of course I did my work the best I could and if I score the marks high, then I would feel like I am being pretentious and unfair. But if I score my own work low, it feels like I am not doing enough and my work is just not cut out for this module. When it comes down to the creation of blogs, I absolutely had no idea what was going on. The format that needed to in and the editing of the html in the html view, it was really difficult for someone who had never used it before. I came from a engineering foundation so I am a lot more comfortable with writing / typing reports in document forms but not a blog.

Fortunately, there were no boundaries in this module and I really appreciated that. I could draw and sketch out what I had in mind and Dr Charles and my classmates would give honest feedback from what I had proposed to them in the class. Talking about class time, the way Dr Charles gave up one of his classes out of the 2 in a week to start reviewing and giving feedback to the designs that all of us students had proposed was an amazing experience to see and hear what they had done.
